From the initial consultation to the recent completion of our extension Mark Iddon has provided a first class service and we are delighted with the results. Mark was able to turn our very sketchy brief in to a scheme that has created a fantastic space for our family.
Before commencing the design Mark met with us at home and talked us through examples of previous projects of a similar nature to ours. Mark’s portfolio of drawings and photographs were really useful as it give us an insight in to what was possible, as well as helping us expand our brief by pointing out what would work for us and what would be nice to have. Mark then undertook surveys on site to allow him to detail the existing building and then develop first proposal drawings. Mark understood our requirements really well and the proposals were very close to meeting our needs, so there only a few minor changes required before he moved them on to detailed construction drawings for planning and Building Regulations submissions and Mark assisted us with both of these.
Using Mark’s contacts we were also able to appoint a structural engineer and ultimately the builder we employed for our extension. This helped greatly as all parties had worked together before so when any queries occurred they were able to resolve quickly, avoiding any delays or costs. It was also reassuring that our builder had worked with Mark previously, so he was able to provide a positive review of previous work as well as advise on any matters arising from the builder’s quotation.
Our extension represented a significant investment and commitment, so it was imperative that it was completed successfully and met our requirements. Having Mark on board to develop the design and provide support when required was certainly instrumental to us achieving our goals and we would highly recommend him to anyone looking to develop their home.

I can’t thank Mark enough for his professional assistance with my recent planning permission application converting a bungalow into a vet surgery. He produced a drawing which maximised the use of space whilst maintaining an efficient workflow through the building, listening to my needs but being able to interpret what I said into what I needed. We have been working with Mark on our single storey extension. It’s our first project so we were unsure as to what to expect from an architect – would they be overly technical? Would they put their ideas over our requirements? As it turned out we had no such worries with Mark. First and foremost, he’s a good listener and took our requirements fully on-board – proposing a range of solutions to every challenge the project raised. As it was our first project we asked lots of questions – many in areas which he didn’t necessarily have to help us with e.g. the planning process, building regulations, views on suppliers and builders. Although Mark is very knowledgeable he is able to explain things in simple to understand terms and my wife and I felt very comfortable working with him. The drawings he produced were excellent – even two of the builders who quoted for the work commented they were some of the best they had seen and included many details other architects omit.
